Turning bowls in my studio.

After completing a degree in Ceramics at Edinburgh College of Art in 1998, I established my garden studio at my home in Whitstable, on the north Kent coast of the UK.

I divide my time between making small batches of hand thrown ceramics, raising a family, and tending to my allotment.

Most of my work is thrown on the potter’s wheel using porcelain clay. Form and function are kept simple. I use a restrained colour palette; graphic black and white lines of inlaid slip and sgraffito; smooth, tactile glazes in muted colours, mixed myself, from raw ingredients. Work is high fired in my electric kiln.

I make pots for everyday use. The pieces are fine, yet robust enough to be held, filled, drunk out of and eaten from. I love to see my pieces become part of everyday living in other’s homes.

I love the repetitive process of wheel throwing. Over time the forms evolve as they undergo gradual renewal and reinvention, with subtle variations in size, form and glaze finish.

My work is sold at national ceramic shows, pop up shops, markets and other events, at open studios, in my online shop and in shops and galleries throughout the UK.
